NYFW - KaufmanFranco Dazzles for Fall 2014
KaufmanFranco designers Ken Kaufman and Isaac Franco showed their Fall 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week, and have gotten some good notices.
Fox News wardrobe master, fashion director, and former editor Gwen Marder said, "I thought the collection was magnificent. It was right on target with beautiful architectural lines, effortless sophistication and an easy elegance. A collection for the modern, chic cosmopolitan woman."
The design duo told me backstage they were going for cleaner, simpler shapes this season saying, "Things were reallly indulgent, but it was deceptively simple with more of a tactile sensation. We look back a little bit to Kate Moss in the 90's. The influence of how she presented herself, and some of the great lingerie pieces."
They said they liked the vulnerable innocence of what the supermodel was often wearing. For example, camisole or slip dressses with protective outerwear like a boxy blazer thrown over. Ken Kaufman said ".. sort of a hard shell, tough girl thing, but inside it's sexy."

GREAT COATS AT JONNY SAUNDERS
Jonathan Saunders inserted huge speaker-stacks into Tate's Duveen Galleries this evening for a collection that played a tricky riff on discordance and proportion. Huge coats mushroomed over shimmery slim skirts; Lurex relief spangled against dun panels; twisted necklines towered over delicate diagonals. The narrative was of slow deconstruction, then reassembly: those coats were plastered with square clusters of pinstripe, Lurex and counter-colour: thickets of leafy lace rustled from below waistbands. At the end, these square patches were ripped up and pieced together again in three or four intricate check dresses that were the strongest looks of the show - Post-It gowns. Their impact, though, was shouldered aside by a russet jumper with a quarterback's padding, the weeping-albino make-up and a sense of mournfulness as alarming as the yellow and black danger zone diagonals that pulsated from beneath a shaggy-lapelled black overcoat.
